Orian Thomas Tarpley, Jr., known affectionately as Thomas to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on April 30, 1943, in Dublin, Georgia, Thomas was a lifelong resident who cherished his roots and the people of his hometown.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Orian Thomas Tarpley, Sr. and Flauselle Thomas Tarpley, as well as his brothers, Robert and William Tarpley. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his beloved wife of many years, Lavelle Carr Tarpley; daughter, Penny Walker of Dexter, and sons, Lance Tarpley and Craig Ayres, both of Dublin. Thomas is also survived by three grandchildren; brothers, Marvin Tarpley (Sue) of Dublin and Harvey Tarpley (Sylvia) of Statham, along with his mother-in-law, Annett Carr, and sister-in-law, Joany Harden (Wayne), both of Dublin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thomas's life was marked by his dedication to his community, a trait that was evident through his long and fulfilling career with the City of Dublin. His colleagues were not just coworkers but friends. Thomas was a man who loved to help others, and his generous spirit was felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Thomas was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing in his pastime and gospel singing. He was a man of faith, deeply involved with his church family at Bethsaida Baptist Church, where he was a member.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 11th at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM at Bethsaida Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, followed by burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Brad Ball and Rev. Al Daniel will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Steve Sheppard, Chuck Sheppard, Bruce Tarpley, Dan Rowe, Tommy Cauthen, Johnny NeSMith, and Gus Albritton.
