Othine Garner Obituary

Mrs. Othine Clark Garner died July 16, 2022, peacefully, at home in Dublin.

Mrs. Garner was born February 11, 1934, in Lowery, Georgia, the daughter of the late Otha Emerson Clark and Jeanette Anderson Clark. She was a graduate of Dublin High School.   With a flair for hair and all things beauty, she had a very successful career as an aesthetician and was known and loved dearly by her clients and friends, here in Dublin at the Town and Country Beauty Salon, at the Partridge Inn Salon in Augusta while her husband was in the service and, finally, at her own salon “in the country.”

Othine loved a garden and spent most of her free time with her favorite hobby in her own yard and at the family farm. She was also quite the cook, and her famous Chocolate Praline Cake was written up in one of Louise Dodd’s weekly columns for the Dublin Courier Herald.

She and her husband, Javan Garner, lived in Laurens County all their lives, besides a brief stint in Augusta, where she accompanied him while he served in the Army.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Broxton Javan Garner; daughters, Alesa Garner McArthur and Denise Garner Jacob (Jay), as well as three grandchildren, Virginia Jacob Cruse (Andy), Leila Christian Jacob, and Marshall Clark McArthur, and three siblings: Mrs. Elaine Harris of Savannah, Mrs. Katherine Wells of Gray, and Mr. O. E. Clark, Jr. of Dublin.

Funeral arrangements are by Townsend Brothers Funeral Home of Dublin, with visitation on Thursday, July 21, at 2:00 pm at Dublin First United Methodist Church and the funeral following at 3:00 pm.  Interment will be at Marie Baptist Church immediately following the funeral.

Members of her Progressive Sunday School class will be honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Gideons International and Auxiliary, of which Javan and Othine have been long-time members; so that Bibles can be placed in her memory.
