Ovid Foster Spivey, Jr., age 92, of East Dublin, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2020, after an extended illness.
Mr. Spivey was a native of Laurens County and born on October 22, 1927, to the late Ovid and Sally Dupree Spivey, Sr. He worked as a superintendent at Georgia Plywood Corporation and as a supervisor at Bassett Furniture before retirement. As a lifetime member of Union Baptist Church, Mr. Spivey served the church in many capacities over the years including serving as a Deacon, Building Committee Member, and an active participant in BrotherHood. He drove many nails and hung a lot of plywood in the church over the years, as well as build tables, desks, and stands when needed. Ovid enjoyed outdoor sports with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, driving his tractors, and setting out pine trees. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Gail Spivey Lee; brother, Charles Spivey; and sisters, Gloria Fountain, Thelma Carroll, and Joann McCord.
Mr. Spivey is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Norris Spivey, of East Dublin; son, Gary Spivey (Rosie), of Dublin; brother, James A. Spivey (Betty), of East Dublin; grandchildren, Bryan Spivey (Krystal), of Soperton, Daniel Spivey (Amanda), and Michael Spivey, both of Dublin, and Abigail Lee and Joe Lee, both of Bryon; son-in-law, David Lee, of Bryon; great-grandchildren, Walker Spivey, Ethan Spivey, Skylar Spivey, and Layne Spivey, all of Dublin and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Mr. Spivey will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at 3:00 PM in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Mike Mertz will officiate.
