Patricia Cochran Obituary

Patricia Sutton Cochran was born on February 24th, 1933.  She was the daughter of Olin T. Sutton and Juanita Cooper Sutton.

Pat lived in Vidalia, Ga until she was three years old when her father, who worked for Georgia Power Company, moved the family to Dublin, Ga. Pat attended Saxon Heights Elementary, then Calhoun Street School, and later graduated from Dublin High in 1951. She was an active participant on the girl’s athletic teams as well as cheerleading. She was involved in several high school organizations, editor of her high school annual, an honor student, and served as a Page for the Ga House of Representatives.

After graduating from Dublin, she enrolled in Ga State College for Women, graduating in three years with a BS degree in Home Economics. Pat was a member Phi Upsilon Omicron Society and the 1954 President of the Student Body.

In 1954 she was selected to appear in the Who’s Who Among Students In American Universities and Colleges. In 1968 she was selected to appear in the 1968 Edition of Outstanding Young Women of America.

Pat married Benjamin Guy Cochran in 1954. A new life began with a move to Greencastle, IN. While Ben finished up at DePauw University, she established a Home Economics Department for the school of Cloverdale, IN. She accompanied Ben as they began their journey in the United States Air Force with stops in Tucson, AZ, Greenville, MS, and Dover DE.

Ben left the Air Force in 1958 and returned home to join the family business Cochran Brothers. Pat raised four children while simultaneously working at the business for over twenty years. She had two brief stints outside the family business working as an elementary school teacher and also for the Department of Family Services. She was active in the community as a member of the Dublin Service League, the Cotillion Club, both the Erin and Federated Garden Clubs where she served as President, and most importantly First Baptist Church where she served in numerous capacities for many years.

Pat loved playing her weekly tennis and bridge games with her many friends as well as maintaining her love for sewing. Her first and foremost love was her family which she devoted unceasing love and attention, particularly the thirteen grandchildren that she ferried about Dublin to various activities but primarily to church. She served her extended family tirelessly during times of sickness as well as times of joy. She was a loyal companion and traveling partner with Ben to all parts of God’s beautiful earth.

She was predeceased in death by her husband Ben, her granddaughter Em Ladson, and  her older sister Peggy Sutton Gilmore. She is survived by her baby sister Teresa Sutton Wilkes, her four children Guy (Tina) Cochran, Lee (Gus) Ladson, Wick Cochran, and Ash (Leisha) Cochran along with twelve grandchildren and twenty eight great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

She loved her Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart, soul, and mind, and daily sought to earn the salutation “well done thy good and faithful servant”.
