Phillip Joseph Young

Reverend Philip Joseph Young, Sr., age 61, of Dublin, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia after a short illness.

He was born in Fairmount, GA on July 17, 1959, to the late Rev. W.H. “Buddy” Young and Mamie Clyde Carr Young McMahan. He was preceded in death by his father and an older sister, Laura Evelyn Young. Phillip was a native of Dodge County, GA, and graduated from Dodge County High School in 1977. Phillip has been the pastor of Truth Tabernacle Apostolic Pentecostal Church for 19 years.

Rev. Young started preaching at the age of 22, and was very active in the ministry, and winning souls for God. He worked as a building Superintendent for the Federal Courthouse and loved to sing and play his guitar. His life was God, ministry, and family, and he loved letting his grandkids boss him around. Phillip was always willing to help anyone in need and genuinely loved people.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 42 years, Lynn Huett Young; three children, Sheree Scarboro (BJ), Felicia Nobles (Tony), and Phillip Joseph Young, Jr. (Cheryl), all of Dublin; mother, Mamie Clyde Carr Young McMahan; eight grandchildren, Erica Corbitt (Jason), Billy Joe Scarboro, Paige, and Avery Nobles, and Katelynn, Phillip Young, III, and Chloe; brothers, John Young (Villetes), Ronnie Young (Tammy), Monty Young (Tammy), Danny Young (Jennifer), and David Young; sisters, Barbara Lawrence, Elaine Mullis (Randall), Susan Graham, Jane Widener (Gary), Debra Beasley (Chester), Cherry Rewis (Gary), and Rosemary Jones (Ronnie); also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at Truth Tabernacle Pentecostal Church, 1800 Highway 19 South, Dublin, GA, at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 25, 2021. Burial will follow at Faith Tabernacle Church Cemetery. Rev. Johnny Wheeler, Rev. Kenneth Morrell, and Rev. Ben Weeks will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Jason Corbitt, Billy Joe Scarboro, Monty Young, Danny Young, Chace Scarboro, and Jonathan Slater. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Young, III, Avery Nobles, John Young, Sr., Ronnie Young, David Young, and Aubrey Yoder.
