Phyllis Ruth (Nyeholt) Roorda

Phyllis Ruth Nyeholt Roorda, age 92, passed away on April 16, 2021.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Townsend Brothers Funeral Chapel.

Phyllis Roorda was born on April 22, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan to Rena and William Nyeholt. She passed away on September 2, 2020, in Wylie, Texas at the age of 92.

Phyllis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved her Lord, she loved her family, and she loved her church. Phyllis worked hard from an early age at home and in the family store. When she wasn’t hard at work – which was very little – Phyllis loved to laugh and joke around with her friends and family. She never lost that beautiful smile and giggle. Phyllis married Peter Samuel Roorda, the love of her life, on June 16, 1948. They were married for 59 years until his death in 2007. She and Sam served tirelessly during their time at First Baptist Church of Dexter, Georgia. After Sam’s death, Phyllis moved to Texas. She so enjoyed her extended visits with her sister, her kids, and grandkids as often as possible. Phyllis continued to share her love, wisdom, and laughter with all those around her no matter where she was. She is greatly missed.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Rena and William, her husband, Sam, and her brothers Raymond and Whitie.

Phyllis is survived by her sister, Nancy Smith of Georgia; and her 6 kids: Brenda Zylstra (Sam) of Massachusetts; Robert William Roorda of Washington; Randall Peter Roorda of Texas; Karen Ruth Christy (Dave), Richard Allen Roorda (Jackie), and Scott Samuel Roorda – all of New York. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way.
