Ray Holland, age 89, of Cadwell, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Holland was born in Laurens County on April 9, 1931, to the late Johnny and Mary Davidson Holland. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country for four years. Ray owned and operated a rolling grocery store for rural areas and later owned and operated Holland Supermarket in Rentz. He served as a Laurens County Tax Assessor for over 26 years and also enjoyed farming. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was also a longtime member of Dexter Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Holland; brothers, Wilbur Holland, Roy Holland, and James Holland, and sister, Grace Hart.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Holland, of Cadwell; daughters, Kathy Sullivan (Ed), of Charlotte, NC, Patricia Holland, of Savannah, and Julie Harper (Brett), of Dalton; step-daughter, Denise Strickland (Danny), of Dexter; grandchildren, Ashley Sullivan, of Charlotte, NC, and Andrew Sullivan, of Nashville, TN; sister, Montine Taylor, of Dublin, several nieces, and nephews, and special friend, Sammy Braswell.
Graveside services for Mr. Holland will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Calvin Holcomb will officiate.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to Dexter Baptist Church or to Serenity Hospice. The family of Mr. Holland, and the staff of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, respectfully ask all in attendance to follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask.
