Reuben Wells Obituary

Reuben Roderick Wells, age 91, of Dublin, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018, at his residence.

Mr. Wells was born August 13, 1927, in Winnsboro, SC, to the late Osborne E. Wells, Sr. and the late Hattie Bell Harmon Wells. After Pearl Harbor, Reuben enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17. He served as Quartermaster and most notably onboard ships of the fleet which participated in the testing of the atomic bomb.

Following his time in the service, Reuben enrolled at the University of South Carolina, graduating in June, 1952. While at the University of South Carolina, he lettered in baseball and was known as “TV” for his spectacular, television-worthy catches in left field. After graduating, he began his career with JC Penney in Columbia, SC. He worked as a store manager for JC Penney serving at stores in Augusta, GA; Charleston, SC; Selma, AL; and Dublin, GA.

Mr. Wells was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church in Dublin. He was active in the Dublin Civitan Club for many years and volunteered with the Salvation Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, May Black and Kitty George; brothers, Osborne Wells, Jr. and George Wells; grandson, Joel R. Humphrey, and son-in-law, William P. Warren.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet Wells Warren of Villa Rica, GA; son, Roddy Wells (Allison) of Auburn, AL; grandchildren, Kyle R. Wells (Kristen) of Dublin, GA, Catherine E. Warren of Villa Rica, GA, Meghan L. Wells of Gainesville, GA, and Andrew P. Warren and Austin K. Newsome both of Auburn, AL; great-granddaughter, Brielle E. Wells of Dublin; sisters-in-law, Mary Wells of Columbia, SC, and Annie S. Cherry of Aiken, SC, and a host of nieces and nephews in SC, TN, AL, and MS.

Private services for Mr. Wells will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation remembrances made to Integrity Hospice, 1101B Hillcrest Parkway, Dublin, GA 31021.
