Robert Grayling Sewell, 69, of Rentz, GA passed away peacefully after an extended illness on April 25 at Serenity Place. Robert was born July 21, 1950, in Eustis, FL to the late Edwin and Bonnie Sewell. He attended elementary and high school in Apopka and graduated from Mid-Florida Tech in Orlando. He joined the Navy and proudly served his country as a Naval Airman. During this time, Robert married Margie Ricks. He was stationed at Quonset Point, RI and served aboard the USS WASP. Robert was later assigned duties at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL.
Robert worked in installation, sales, and as a supervisor for Browning Septic Tank, Co. He also served his local church, New England Heights Baptist Church, as a youth leader, Sunday School teacher, and ministry. Robert surrended to his calling into ministry under the leadership of Pastor Howell and enrolled in Stetson University. While attending Stetson, Robert participated in nursing home ministry and pulpit supply. He received his BA in religion in 1982. Upon graduation Robert and his family relocated to Laurens County, GA where he taught religion at Trinity Christian School and served in pulpit supply. Robert was ordained by Pastor Lee at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Cadwell and went on to become a bivocational pastor at Bethesda Baptist Church. He worked for RESA, Flexsteel, and as owner and operator of Rainbow International.
Over his lifetime, Robert enjoyed drag racing, fishing, golfing, working, and most of all, spending time with his family. He took great pleasure in attending the events of his daughters and grandsons. Robert was gifted at building and repairing and enjoyed working on projects at home.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents Edwin F and Bonnie Watson Sewell and beloved son-in-law Justin Robert Goodroe. Survivors include his wife of 50 years Margie Ricks Sewell; daughters Tonya Lee Cladianos (San Antonio, TX), Tina Sewell Goodroe (Perry, GA) and Hollie Marie Sewell (Winter Haven, FL); grandsons Cory Robert Goodroe and Cole Alexander Goodroe (Perry, GA); sister Pat Sewell West (Buddy) of Canton, GA and brother Edwin Kirby Sewell (Leslie) of Bahama, NC; many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be set at a later date. The family expresses their appreciation for the love and attention he received from former caregivers and to everyone at Rescare, Nightingale, and Serenity Hospice.
