Robert Shelly "Butch" Miller Obituary

Robert Shelly (Butch) Miller, 77 of Dublin, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020.

Mr. Miller was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  He was a retired educator of Dublin City School for 30 years.   He was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Ellis Miller, mother, Ruby Daniels Miller, and his sister, Peggy Miller Nelson.

Butch Miller was a trusted husband, father, uncle, grandfather, teacher, coach, and mentor to so many in this community.   For 30 years, he taught school at Dublin Middle and Dublin High School.   He faithfully served his church, Dublin Parks and Recreation Department, the Kiwanis Club, and the Dublin Exchange Club for many years.   He was an avid reader, historian, and sports fan.   His dry wit and sense of humor were unmatched.   But most of all, he loved his family fiercely and unconditionally.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Cecile Adams Miller; sons, Robert S. Miller, Jr. (Laura), Adam Cullens Miller (Leslie), and William Nathan Miller (Chase).   He is also survived by his niece, Dotte Nelson Thacker, and his nephew, Krather (Lynda) Nelson.  His six grandchildren, Laura Lee Miller, Trey Miller, Ben Miller, Ellie Miller, Rees Miller, and Ellis Miller will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM in the Sanctuary at First United Methodist Church of Dublin.   Dr. Stan Buckley, Rev. Brian Gay, Dr. Bob Williams, and Rev. Barry Giddens will officiate.   Social Distancing guidelines will be in effect, and seating capacity will be limited.   A live stream of the service will be available via the church website for those unable to attend in person. A private burial will be held at Dublin Memorial Gardens.

Will Adams, Scott Beasley, Cullen Nelson, Carlton Nelson, David Polhill, and John Strickland, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.  Jack Owen, Johnny Stanfield, Bob Thigpen, Tommy Sharpe, Neil Loyd, Ben Snipes, Marvin Tarpley, and Don Dailey will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Youth Ministry of Dublin First United Methodist Church or But God Ministries, 404 Fontaine Place, Suite 104, Ridgeland, MS 39157.

Townsend Brothers Funeral Home and Staff respectfully ask all in attendance to follow the social distancing guidelines set by our local health district and the CDC.
