Roy Lamar Ward, a cherished family man, respected veteran, and skilled craftsman, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, in Dublin, Georgia. Born on November 24, 1939, in Dexter, Georgia, to loving parents Oscar Lamar Ward and Geraldine Knight Ward, Roy was a beacon of kindness and thoughtfulness throughout his 85 years of life.
Roy was a graduate of the school of hard work and dedication. After honorably serving his country in the United States Army, he continued to embody the values of service and commitment in his civilian life. He worked diligently in the maintenance department of Fairview Park Hospital, where his handy skills and can-do attitude were greatly appreciated by all who knew him.
Roy was a man of many interests, with a particular passion for the outdoors. He was a very hands-on person who enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and hunting. His creations and renovations were not only a source of personal pride but also brought joy to those around him. Roy's love for nature was rivaled only by his love for his family, with whom he cherished spending time above all else.
His beloved wife of 53 years, Quinette Thomas Ward, was his steadfast partner in life's journey. Together, they created a warm and loving home for their children: Becky Hardee, Brett (Christina) Ward, and Angela Ward (Homer) Moxley. Roy's role as a father was one he held dear, and his guidance and support shaped the lives of his children in countless ways. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Mullis.
Roy's legacy includes his four grandchildren, Megan White, Katherine Dugger, Justin Ward, and Emily Ward, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Charlie Dugger and Sammie Dugger. He was a doting grandfather and great-grandfather, always ready with a story, a smile, or a helping hand. The memories created during fishing trips, woodworking projects, and family gatherings will be treasured by his grandchildren for generations to come.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Geraldine Ward, and his sister, Ann Ward Mench. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness and thoughtfulness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Mary Whitaker Townsend Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens.
