Samuel Wilbur “Sammy” Currie, Jr., age 78, of Dublin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 27, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Currie was born in Laurens County on January 11, 1945, to the late Samuel Wilbur Currie, Sr., and the late Mary Frances Williams Currie. He retired from JP Stevens/Forstman after many dedicated years as a Quality Control Manager. Sammy was a member of Olivet Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing in his spare time. His greatest joy was found in spending time with his family, especially with his grandsons, and great-grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Hope Currie Meredith.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Patsy Currie of Dublin; daughters, Renee Elder, and Tracy Kinney (Chris), both of Dublin; grandsons, Lee Elder (Courtney) of Columbus, and Gabe Kinney of Dublin; great-grandsons, Lewis and Sam Elder, both of Columbus; brothers, Jimmy Currie (Dea) of Jasper, GA, Bobby Currie (Sandra) of Dublin, and Tommy Currie (Melissa) of Dublin, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Olivet Baptist Church with burial to follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Kyle Giddens will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Charles Coleman, Dr. Ernie Carlton, Lane Blanchett, Rick French, Brent Currie, and Kelley Meredith.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Olivet Baptist Church, 1689 GA Highway 19 South, Dublin, GA 31021, or to the Dublin-Laurens Habitat for Humanity, 1101-L Hillcrest Parkway, PMB #223 Dublin, GA 31021.
