Samuel Crumpton, Sr. Obituary

Samuel Clayton Crumpton, Sr., age 70, passed away the morning of September 26, 2022, after an extended illness.  “Sammy” as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was raised in Rentz GA and graduated from Laurens High.  His father, Robert Clayton Crumpton, died when he was 7 years old and his loving mother Evie Knight Crumpton, raised him to be a caring, strong, and compassionate man.

Work was no stranger to Sammy as he would give all of his energy to working in order to provide for his family.  He never put himself first—family, a friend, or even a stranger in need took precedence.  Many times, you would never know that Sammy was around as he was quiet and humble, and always told his boys that that’s why God gave them 2 ears and 1 mouth—to listen until the right moment to be heard.

Sammy worked many jobs throughout the years; however, he gave his full commitment of 28 years as a Correctional Officer of the State Department of Corrections.  Following retirement, his “job” became being a full-time fisherman.  It wasn’t unusual to find him and his fishing buddy, Ralph Mullis, in the Oconee River three or four times a week.

Sammy was a current Mason serving thirty years in the Dexter Masonic Lodge, a Shriner of Al Sihah Shrine Center for twenty-five years with the Wayfarers Shrine Unit of Dublin.  He was also a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Georgia Peace Officer Association.

Sammy is survived by his wife, Beth Price Crumpton formerly from Alamo, GA, whom he has been happily married for thirty-nine years.  He was blessed with three beautiful children a son, Rob Crumpton of Dublin, Clay Crumpton of Dublin, and Lori Crumpton Snipes (Dan) of Statesboro GA.  Four grandchildren, Caroline Snipes and Carter Snipes of Statesboro; Domanic and Colin Crumpton of Dublin; one niece, Cathy Wilkes Pittman (Dan), one nephew, Ray Wilkes, Jr. (Pam), and numerous other family members.

Sammy was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Ida Pearl Crumpton Wilkes, and brother-in-law, Raymond Wilkes (Ray), Sr.

Services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Masonic rites in the Chapel of Townsend Funeral Home of Dublin.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.  The interment will be in Rentz City Cemetery, Rentz. GA.

Pallbearers will be his three grandsons Domanic and Colin Crumpton, Carter Snipes, and nephews, Noah Benson, and Harrison and Cameron Wood.

Flowers are welcome; however, contributions to the Shriner’s Hospital are appreciated and may be sent to Al Sihah Shrine, 222 Mecca Drive, Macon GA, 31206.  The family is receiving friends at 712 Flanders Lane, Dublin.
