Tim Franks Obituary

Charles Timothy "Tim" Franks, aged 63, a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, and educator, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024, in Dublin, Georgia. Born in Athens, Alabama, on September 13, 1960, to Charles W. Franks and Anita Broadway Franks, Tim was a beacon of light and laughter in the lives of those who knew him.

Tim's early years were spent in the nurturing environment of Athens, where he laid the roots of his lifelong love for education and sports. He completed his high school education at West Laurens High School in 1978, igniting a journey that would see him become a pillar in the educational community. Furthering his passion, Tim obtained his bachelor's degree in Education from Georgia College and State University in 1988, a Master's in Administration from Cambridge College, and a Specialist degree in Administration from Georgia College and State University.

Tim's professional life was a testament to his dedication to shaping young minds. He began his illustrious career as a teacher at West Laurens High School for the 1988-89 school year, where he inspired countless students both in the classroom and through coaching football, basketball, golf, and girls' softball. His leadership and mentorship led the Lady Raiders Softball team to a triumphant State Softball Championship in 2000, a crowning achievement in his coaching career.

Advancing in his vocation, Tim served as Principal at the Crossroads Alternative School for four years and later took the helm at West Laurens Middle School as Principal. His commitment to education culminated in his role as the Director of Student Records and Alternative Education. After an impactful 32-year tenure with the Laurens County School System, Tim retired but continued to contribute to his community by working part-time at Gayco in Dublin, GA, until his illness in October.

Tim was preceded in death by his loving parents, Charles and Anita Franks, and his granddaughter, Jacqueline Delaney Edge.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his devoted wife, Saundra "Sunny" Franks, his sons Trey (Nikki) Edge and Reid (Laura Beth) Edge, all from Laurinburg, NC, and his brother, Randy Allen Franks of Altadena, California. His joyous spirit lives on through his grandchildren, Chloee Elizabeth Edge, Landon Reid Edge, and Quade Edge, all of Laurinburg, NC. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and great cousins from Alabama and Colorado also fondly remember Tim.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tim was renowned for his infectious sense of humor and his ability to never take himself too seriously. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and golf, but his true talent lay in his ability to crack jokes and bring smiles to everyone's faces. Tim's presence was a source of comfort and joy, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.

The life of Charles Timothy "Tim" Franks was one of unwavering service, boundless enthusiasm, and heartfelt connections. As we bid farewell to a man of great virtue and warmth, we celebrate the indelible mark he left on this world. Tim's story is one of love, laughter, and the enduring impact of an educator who gave his all to his family, his students, and his community. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the countless lives he touched.
