Tommy Leon Nelson, age 89, passed Friday, July 28, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Mr. Nelson was born in Dublin to the late Robert Nelson and the late Dollie Lord Nelson on December 16, 1933. Mr. Nelson was a United States Army veteran and United States Air Force veteran. During his service, he worked as an electronic engineer. He retired from the Warner Robins Air Force Base after 35 years in civil service. He also retired from the Dublin Country Club Pro Shop after 18 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol NeSmith Nelson, as well as eight siblings.
He is survived by his daughter, Bonny LeRoy (Tommy) of Dublin; son, Tommy Nelson of Macon; daughter, Tina Mae Barfield of Dublin; daughter, Tammy Powell (Jake Dean) of Rentz; grandchildren, Brook Browning (Tashia), Blake Browning, Anna Mae Couey, Jordan Powell, Thomas LeRoy, Ericka Powell Herndon (Rhett), Trent LeRoy, and Charlie Barfield; great-grandchildren, Brandt Graham, Emily Graham, Camrii Browning, Rylan Browning, Johnathan Browning, and Ellie Mae Couey; brother-in-law, Larry NeSmith; and sisters-in-law, Frances NeSmith and Charlotte NeSmith.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 31, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home with interment to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Chad Kennison will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Brook Browning, Blake Browning, Jordan Powell, Thomas LeRoy, Trent LeRoy, Charlie Barfield, and Rhett Herndon will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers are Shekema Bivings, NP, the staff of Ole Timers Lodge, and the staff of Haven Hero Hospice of the Carl Vinson Medical Center.
The family will be located at 125 Parker Dairy Road during this time.
