Travis Delon Davis

Services for Coach Travis Delon Davis, age 86, will be held Monday, September 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with interment to follow at Red Bluff Baptist Cemetery in Soperton, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Dr. Cliff Morris, Dr. Lamar Holley, and Dr. Darrell Paulk will officiate.

Jacob Thomas, Andrew Thomas, Garrett Brooks, David Walden, Jeff Alligood, and Clint Davis will serve as pallbearers.

Members of the Adult 3 Sunday School Class as well as former football players for or with Coach Davis will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Coach Davis was born in Soperton, Georgia to the late Albert Marvin Davis and the late Thelma Johnson Davis on June 23, 1937. Coach Davis attended Georgia Military College after receiving a football scholarship. He then attended Austin Pea College and Georgia Southern College where he finished his Bachelor’s Degree. He later attended Middle Tennessee University to complete his Master’s Degree. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he attended the Adult Sunday School Class. He was a retired teacher and coach for Dublin High School. During his career, he coached the Dublin High School football team for 21 years, 8 of which he served as the head coach for the Fighting Irish. He also served as the assistant football coach when Dublin High School won the State Championship in 1963 and began the wresting program. He retired from Dublin City Schools after thirty years of teaching and was inducted into the Dublin Touchdown Club Hall of Fame in 2014. He passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Geraldine Davis Alligood, Ray Davis, and Dolores Davis Walden, and a grandson, Taylor W. Davis.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory is loving wife of 62 years, Carolyn Davis of Dublin; daughter, Angela (John) Thomas of Modoc, SC; son, Van (Suzanne) Davis of Appling, GA; daughter, Melinda (Darin) Brooks of Murfreesboro, TN; and grandchildren, Jacob Thomas, Andrew Thomas, Garrett Brooks, Caroline Davis, Katherine Davis, and Olivia Davis.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to First Baptist Church of Dublin or Georgia Baptist Children’s Home.
