Viola Akers Mills, age 87, of Dexter, Georgia passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020.
Mrs. Mills was a true, coal miner’s daughter born June 3, 1933, in Sourwood Hollow, Lee City, Kentucky to the late Edgar Junior and Callie Salley Akers. Viola lived in Catlettsburg, Kentucky until 1968 before moving to Orlando, Florida, and then to Dexter, Georgia, where she has lived the last thirty-two years. She attended Dexter Baptist Church until moving into an assisted living home ten years ago.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mills was preceded in death by her husband, Elve Mills; daughter, Sharon Mills Turruella; sister, Alma Akers Craig; brothers, John E., Curt, Dorsie, Billy, and Keith Akers; step-sister, Phobe Aker Trusty; and step-brother, Edwin Akers.
She is survived by her children: Carol (Danny) Whittle, of Dexter, Darrell (Pat) Mills, of Rentz, and Carl (Pattie) Mills, of Cadwell; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; brother, James Akers, of Lee City, KY, sisters, Geraldine Akers Green of West Liberty, KY, and Shirley Akers Kimelton of Lee City, KY.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 21, 2020, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Keith Hall will officiate.
Mrs. Mills' grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
