Wiley Douglas Shepard

Wiley Douglas Shepard, known affectionately as Wiley to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on October 24, 1935, in Dublin, Georgia, Wiley was a man whose life was marked by dedication, warmth, and a friendly spirit that touched everyone he met.

The son of the late John Douglas Shepard and Lucille Giles Shepard, Wiley was a lifelong resident of Dublin. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Leveson Shepard, and his cherished son-in-law, Craig Fordham. Wiley's legacy continues through his loving family, including his daughter, Linda Fordham of Dublin; daughter, Laurie Hatcher and her husband, Tommy, of Blackshear; son, Michael Shepard of Dublin; and his adored granddaughters, Paige and Haley Hatcher.

Wiley's educational journey began at Dublin High School, where he was a proud graduate. His passion for learning and sports led him to the University of Georgia, where he not only earned a Bachelor’s in Education but also left a mark on the baseball field, playing for the university with vigor and sportsmanship.  Wiley later pursued and obtained his Masters in Education from Georgia College.

After completing his education, Wiley dedicated his life to the service of others as an educator within the Dublin City Schools. His career spanned decades, during which he influenced countless lives with his knowledge, patience, and genuine care for his students. Wiley's commitment to education was matched only by his devotion to his faith as a steadfast member of the First Baptist Church of Dublin.

Those who knew Wiley will remember him as a loving father and grandfather, a spirited teammate, and a friendly face in the community. His presence was a source of comfort and joy to all, and his absence will be deeply felt by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Pine Hill Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Tommy Veal will officiate.
