William Ray Colson, age 70, of Toomsboro, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020, at Fairview Park Hospital.
Mr. Colson was a native of Wilkinson County and a Veteran of the United States Army. He was the owner and operator of Colson Construction Company for 48 years and a member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Wilkinson County Development Authority, and served as Mayor of Toomsboro for 13 years and served 8 years as a City Councilman. Mr. Colson was Assistant Chief of the Toomsboro Fire/Rescue Department and also volunteered with the Wilkinson County Fire/Rescue Department. He was an avid motorcyclist and always supported charity rides and Kids You’ll Love. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otha William Colson and Ivelyn Cooper Colson; son, William Mershon Colson, and his favorite dog, Danny.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Colson, of Toomsboro; his beloved dogs, Oliver and Blacky; and special devoted friend, Kevin Lord (Missy), of McIntyre. He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Sherry Wilson (Randy), Brenda Allen, Rose Hartley, and Jeanette Nelson (Hilton); one aunt and uncle; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Gail Smith, Rev. Terry Sark, and Rev. Mike Bankston will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Lord, Chance Allen, Kelly White, Terry Smith, Raymond Cooper, Randy Summerlin, Jack Upshaw, and Keith Dyer. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Yarborough, Kevin Yarborough, Ray Boone, Joel Ussery, Rickey Hartley, and Phillip Hartley.
