Yvo Black Obituary

Yvo Richardson Black, age 98, of Dublin, passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2020.

Mrs. Black was born in Ashburn, Georgia, July 13, 1921, to the late Leon Edward Richardson and Emma Louise Edwards Richardson.  She was reared in Oglethorpe, Georgia.  While attending Bessie Tift College, in Forsyth, Georgia, she met Dorothy Black.   The two ladies became roommates, sister-in-laws and the best of lifelong friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Wheeless Black married on June 2, 1940.  Yvo and Emmett no doubt had a glorious reunion when she joined him in heaven on their 80th wedding anniversary!

A member of First Baptist Church of Dublin, she nurtured three year olds teaching Sunday School for almost 25 years.   Very active within the Dublin community, Yvo was a charter member of Erin Garden Club.  She loved gardening and shared her wealth of information with others.

A gracious mother and grandmother, she was loved by many.   In addition to being a homemaker, she was a vital part of Black’s Seed Store, an institution her husband began in downtown Dublin.  The well known family business, started 1936, where her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have been a part.  Today the legacy continues with her daughter Linda, and two grandsons, Barron and Richard.  Her grandson, Barron, is now the President of the multi faceted business.

She was preceded in death by her husband Emmett Wheeless Black; her parents, Leon Edward Richardson and Emma Louise Edwards Richardson; and siblings: Turista R. Fugate, Edwina R. Hardage, Velma R. Bray, Thelma R. Bray and Edward Richardson.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Black Brandon of Dublin; son, Dr. Emmett W. Black Jr. (Judy) of Dublin; grandsons, Samuel Barron Brandon, Jr. (Susan) of Dublin; Richard Lee Brandon (Gail Simmons) of Dexter, Wesley Collin Black (Kimberly) of Evans; granddaughters, Rachel Black Murray (Scott) of St. Augustine, Sarah Elizabeth Black of St. Augustine, and Mary Kathryn Willcox (Skip) of Dublin. Several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

The family’s favorite charities include: Georgia Baptist Children’s Home, P O Box 329, Palmetto, GA 30268; or

Methodist Home of Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204; and the Smokey Mountain Resort Ministries, PO Box 114, Gatlinburg, Tennessee 37738.

A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Black on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Northview Cemetery beginning at 11:00AM. Dr. Joel Dent and Rev. Wes Moye will officiate.
