Robert Harry "Sonny" Callier, Jr.

Robert Harry “Sonny” Callier Jr., of Dublin, Georgia, passed away May 22, 2023, at the age of 90.

Sonny was born December 7, 1932, in Talbot County, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Harry Callier Sr. and Ella Bivins Callier, and his wife of 58 years, Betty Tison Callier.

Sonny was a graduate of Talbot County High School, West Georgia College, and the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and a Mason. Sonny was a military veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his military service, Sonny became an examiner with the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance and ultimately retired as Director of the department. He was a Certified Financial Examiner and served on a national committee for the Society of Financial Examiners until his retirement.

Mr. Callier is survived by his son, Robert Harry Callier III, daughter-in-law, Margaret MacDonald Callier, and grandson Robert Thomas Callier, Marietta, Georgia. Other surviving family members include Andy Christo, Rebecca Kirkland Christo, Leann Christo McGalliard, Gregory Christo and Davis McGalliard, Albany, Georgia.

A memorial service will be held at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, Dublin, Georgia, on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Joel Dent officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
